Many would love the opportunity to get away to a tropical island or retreat to deepen their yoga practice and be inspired, but don’t have the financial means, opportunity or time to get away. Washington native, Melissa Phillips-Hagedorn saw this as an opportunity to use the true nature of yoga to reach out to the community and make the education of yoga more accessible to everyone through this new conference in the Northwest.
As a yoga instructor herself, Melissa saw that there was a need to help bring the yoga community together and really felt that so many people were missing out on the opportunity of continuing the transformational education of yoga due to their financial limitations.
Melissa set out to create a unique event that allowed teachers, students and yoga enthusiasts alike to come together and celebrate in the love of yoga. Now in it’s 3rd year, the Northwest Yoga Conference continues to feature workshops for beginners, advanced students, teachers and studio owners. Notable teacher like Kathryn Budig, Eoin Finn, Aadil Palkhivala, Jill Knouse and many more are scheduled to present workshops at this year’s “Nature of Transformation”themed event, allowing the beauty of yoga to be more accessible to the general public.
In addition to workshops, the conference offers special events, a marketplace with live music, and community classes. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend workshops to deepen their asana yoga practice or continue their education through inspirational lectures by notable teachers in the industry. Whether attending as a studio owner or instructor to learn more about the business of yoga or just attending to learn how to reduce stress and anxiety through yoga and meditation, guests will find a variety of workshops to inspire and transform them, without using their vacation time at work.
“People are typically surprised to find out that yoga is truly accessible to everyone, not just the yogis who can stand on their heads.” says conference director, Melissa Hagedorn. In this spirit, the conference offers several free classes throughout the weekend for children, teenagers, beginners and seniors with the goal of encouraging the general public to come out and try yoga. Additionally, the documentary screening and Keynote Speech, with Molly Lannon Kenny, are open to the public for a nominal fee.
ABOUT THE NORTHWEST YOGA CONFERENCE:
The Northwest Yoga Conference was founded in 2012 by a yoga teacher, Melissa Hagedorn, who realized there were no local and affordable opportunities in the winter for yoga students and teachers to retreat. Thus, Melissa founded the Northwest Yoga Conference which aims to celebrate and promote the benefits of yoga while cultivating a unified community through learning, sharing, and growing together.
